In many Christian circles the concept of the Trinity has been considered a pandora box—best if not opened because it is unable to be explained and it is impossible to preach. So yes, I am being sarcastic when I say “simplicity”!
But during the research phase of the extensive Holy Spirit course I put together last year it became apparent that there was both a personal need and a community need to dive into the topic more fully. Therefore, in the Fall of 2023 I went “all in” on the research and decided to put a course together. My aim was to provide a course on the Trinity that would enable the participate to jump into the deep end of the pool on the formation and theology of the doctrine while at the same time keep the content accessible for non-academics.
I answer the following questions in this course: Why do we even have a Trinity doctrine? Does it have a purpose in everyday life? How/why did we arrive with this doctrine? What types of developments has the Trinity doctrine undergone in the past 2000 years? What is the difference between Classical, Social, Eternal Functional Subordination Trinitarianism?
The links to the six sessions are below—enjoy the theological ponderings!
NOTE: The course presentation was done in partnership with Woodland Hills Church in St. Paul, MN, so at times a name and/or reference may not be familiar to you, but the overall content is broad and comprehensive.
